Yandex starts calculating activity level in world’s 42 cities
MOSCOW, May 21 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company Yandex has compiled a rating of activity in 42 big cities of the world as lockdowns are eased, the tech giant said on Thursday in a statement.
“The world is retreating from isolation. Every country and every city is unique -- confinement measures vary and relief plans differ. Yandex analysts have created a page with information on the growth of activity in 42 global metropolises, including Moscow and St. Petersburg. Changes of the situation can be also tracked on Yandex.Maps,” the company said.
Yandex analyzes activities in 42 cities and makes graphs showing changes with 0% as the lowest level registered in a city when lockdown was introduced, to 100% as the highest activity as if on a working day in February–March.
The company uses own data, open statistics of Apple on the number of movements of users, and data of Otonomo, which aggregates data on car traffic in different cities.
As of Wednesday, Stockholm with 88%, Brussels and Nur-Sultan with 75% were close to their usual life. The index amounted to 48% in Moscow and 56% in St. Petersburg. The lowest level was in Mumbai, where the indicator amounted to 17% and Rio de Janeiro with 23%.
